Numeracy

At Greythorn Primary School our core practices for Mathematics uses a multitude of strategies consisting of purposeful questions, differentiated tasks, focus groups, goal setting, scaffolding and the use of concrete and pictorial resources. We also promote reasoning and problem solving to encourage both curiosity and resilience in all students. Students in Year 5 and 6 have the opportunity to take part in the Maths Olympiad.

Embedded into every maths lesson is our instructional model. Weekly problem-solving lessons follow the format of launch, explore and summarise/review.

Within our maths program, teachers use a variety of formative and summative assessments to improve student learning. These include: observations of students, individual and group conferences, sharing, exit tickets, reflections and feedback from students, Maths Online Interview, Essential Assessment, PATM and NAPLAN.
