District Cross-country Carnival

The weather was ideal last Friday for the annual District Cross-country Carnival. This year we had 60 students competing across all age categories. The students all performed extremely well with many podium places, along with many personal best times being achieved. The excellent results ensured Greythorn placed second overall against all schools, which was an outstanding result. Congratulations to all the students for their achievements and the support they gave each other and fellow competitors throughout the event. As a result of their achievements, 11 students (listed below) have qualified for the Division final, which is being held at Ruffey Lake Park on Monday, June 1. We wish these students all the best for this and know they will represent Greythorn with pride and distinction. Thank you to Mrs Deckert for her ongoing work with the training of the cross-country team, along with managing all administrative tasks for their participation in these events. Thank you also to Ms McGregor, Ms Reid and Ms Koronias for attending to assist with the students. Many parents also attended on the day to encourage and cheer on the team and I also thank these people for their support.

PFA Mother’s Day Stall

The recent Mother’s Day Stall was very successful with a huge array of items on offer for the students to choose from. As a result of this, the profit this year equated to $2600, which was an outstanding result. Thank you to all PFA members for their tireless work to ensure the success of this event.

Scholastic Book Fair

This year’s book fair has been extremely popular with large numbers of students and parents attending the library each morning and afternoon since last Wednesday. There has been a buzz in the library each day as the students peruse the books and other items on sale, making careful choices with the money they have to spend. The ‘class pet’ project along with the colouring competition have all added to the engagement from the students and contributed to the success of this event. The fair achieved sales of more than $4000, which will equate to the school receiving a commission of approximately $800. Thank you all for your support of this. I would like to sincerely thank Kim Adam for the huge amount of time and effort she put into organising and promoting the fair, ensuring its success. She was assisted by Kylie Batten and Nopi Kenos who both put a huge amount of time and effort into all aspects of this as well. All staff were also wonderful support, assisting with the daily sales and promoting the ‘class pet’ and colouring competition components. A great team effort!

Updated School Uniform

Ongoing work has been carried out with Dobsons since last year regarding the upcoming changes to the school uniform. As mentioned previously, the current base colour of Royal Blue is being replaced across the range with Navy Blue. This change will enable parents to purchase navy blue items from anywhere they choose, along with enabling additional items being added to the range. Production of the new items has commenced, and I can announce that all new items will be in stock and for sale at the Dobsons store from September 18. A catalogue of all items and prices will be made available to families in the weeks prior to this. Graphics of the new-look uniform can be viewed at the office or second-hand uniform shop. One major change in this process is replacing the current House t-shirt and senior school sports top with a single multi-purpose garment. The new House polo can be worn by any student as their House top, along with the senior students wearing the top when representing the school in any sports team or event. The House polo features respective House colours and names along with the school’s name on the back. Please note that students can continue to wear the current uniform for the life of any garment. The list below outlines the new items and changes.

§ Updated polo shirt design

§ New shell jacket and puffer vest

§ Updated tunic/summer dress

§ Ponte pant/skivvy & tights in navy blue

§ New beanie

§ Updated track pants with lower leg zips

§ New microfibre shorts

§ Updated skort

§ New House polo/sport top

Assembly

This week’s performing arts assembly was held in the hall and to date, a highlight of this term. The students from 128 performed Pudding on the Hill on the marimbas, along with the students from 313 performing Hot Cross Buns on the recorder and marimbas. Both classes did an outstanding job showcasing their musical attributes with their respective renditions. The assembly concluded with a high voltage performance of Seven Nations Army (White Stripes)by the members of our rock band. They too did an outstanding job with Mon N (512) on keyboard, Oscar S (510) on electric guitar, North E (510) on drums, Sonny N (510) on violin and Samuel C (512) also on keyboard. Rock on boys! Thank you to Mr Price for his ongoing work as our wonderful performing arts teacher as the amazing performances are a direct result of Terry’s teaching and the many musical opportunities the students have access to throughout the year. Many parents were also in attendance, and they too thoroughly enjoyed the performances.

School Production

Rehearsals are in full swing for this year’s whole-school production called The Greatest Story Never Told. Performances are being held on Wednesday, July 15 and Thursday, July 16 at Yarra Valley Grammar in the George Wood Performing Arts Centre. The production promises to be a night of fun and entertainment and the students are already very excited about the prospect of being on stage. Information regarding ticket sales will be sent out via Compass shortly.
