School Profile
Greythorn Primary School serves the educational needs of families in North Balwyn. Established in 1953, the school is set on a site of over two hectares with sweeping views to the city. The current enrolment of approximately 450 students is supported by modern, fully air-conditioned classrooms and a wide range of facilities.
Facilities include a Library, Sport Stadium, Hall, Art Room, Music Room, Languages (French and English as an Additional Language) rooms, a STEM (Science) Centre, and extensive outdoor play areas featuring both artificial and natural surfaces, as well as an adventure playground. An Out of School Hours Care program, operated by TheirCare, is also available on-site within the junior building.
At Greythorn Primary School, we work in partnership with our community to support every student to pursue excellence, develop a lifelong love of learning, and build the skills and attitudes needed to contribute positively in a global society. Our teaching approach encourages students to take risks, ask questions, and seek answers, fostering curiosity, confidence, and a strong sense of purpose.

Learning and Programs
Students benefit from a broad and engaging curriculum supported by specialist programs in LOTE (French), Performing Arts, Visual Arts, Physical Education & Sport, Library, and STEM. A range of targeted support and extension programs are also available, including MiniLit, MacqLit, EAL, Literacy Enrichment, Maths Olympiad, and the Victorian High Ability Program.
Greythorn offers a wide variety of extracurricular opportunities, including Bike Education, an annual Fun Run, Year 3–6 Camp Program, Choir, Taiko, Orchestra and Percussion Ensemble. Students can also participate in an extensive Clubs Program, including Chess, STEM, Art, Library, Cultural, Wellbeing and Calm Club.
Technology is embedded across the curriculum, supporting 21st century learning. Greythorn is a BYOD iPad school for students in Years 3–6. Classrooms are equipped with large screen TVs integrated with Apple TV, and students have access to a range of devices including 3D printers, PCs, laptops, iPads and netbooks.
Student Leadership and Wellbeing
Developing student leadership and social capability is a priority at Greythorn. Senior students take on a variety of leadership roles, contributing to assemblies, school tours, clubs and whole-school events. A Junior School Council, with representatives from all year levels, meets regularly to plan and lead school initiatives.
Wellbeing is central to our school culture. It is explicitly taught through the Respectful Relationships program, supported by approaches such as Zones of Regulation and Circle Time. Our school is committed to child safety across all environments, including outside of school hours.
